Innerfidelity review of the Beats Solo 3 with the W1 Chip

On-ear headphones are not my thing (except with Grado), but can’t argue with the long battery life and what Tyll describes as ‘amazing’ bluetooth range. Apple hasn’t made a big deal out of the W1 chip, but it’s a game changer in the world of wireless headphones. I don’t know how much of a long shot it is, but if Apple can allow other manufacturers to license or just buy the W1 chips, I could see many, many companies take advantage. Imagine a Bose noise-cancelling headphones that lasts 2 weeks on a single charge with huge wireless range which syncs between your Apple devices – that would be something special.
